Amanda's passion for volleyball began by playing indoor at thirteen years old and beach at sixteen. Still holding the assist record at Middleburg High School in Middleburg, FL, Amanda started as a freshman at Jacksonville University. After her first year, she transferred to and graduated from East Tennessee State University where she led the Buc's as their setter for 3 seasons.

Pursuing her dreams of coaching, Amanda, known by her athletes as "coach A.Y" spent two years as the assistant volleyball coach at known golf haven; Augusta State University.

After attaining her Master's degree in Kinesiology, she moved to Atlanta, GA to work for A5 where she assisted the 16's team to make a run at Nationals in Minneapolis, MN. Moving south after her stint in Georgia, she returned home to Florida to administer the National Volleyball League's beach volleyball academy.

While AY's background involved playing beach volleyball during her formative years, she didn't fully commit to the sport until 2018, primarily due to its lack of NCAA recognition during her college days. Dedicating five or more days a week to her training, her professional beach volleyball career was promising but short-lived, as a debilitating left hip labrum tear ultimately forced her to transition permanently to the sidelines of the sport.

In 2017, as head coach, Amanda led Grandview High School to a district title in her first season. Coach A.Y is also the head boy's volleyball coach at Spanish River High School. In her first season with the Sharks, she received the honor of “coach of the year” from the district as they made their mark in the sport in the top 8 of the state after a preseason ranking of below 100.

A.Y is a NASM Certified personal trainer which is a small addition to her area of study in kinesiology. Working with individuals on functional movement patterns and strength is her main focus in private training.

Although A.Y has a tremendous passion to grow the sport, 2020 brought a change of pace as it turned her into Miss Youell for the Anatomy and Biotechnology program students of Spanish River Community High school in Boca Raton, FL. “Teaching has always been in the back of my mind and once I was presented with the opportunity I knew I couldn’t turn it down.”

Coaching for the past few years has led to the most exciting adventure with the sport of volleyball thus far. Running tournaments.

As the assistant director of Rival volleyball club, in partnership with Florida Junior challenge league Amanda now helps run tournaments for the league in South Florida. For more information on joining those visit www.rivalvolleyball.com.

Fast forward to 2023 and things have changed but they stayed the same! Now the assistant athletic director at Spanish River, Ay is leading the coaches of her school along side the athletic director, Chris. At Rival she is managing the functional movement aspect of each athlete’s year and focusing on putting together an online training course that will be ready soon! Stay tuned!

My Mission Statement

As a coach to young athletes, I understand the opportunity I have to impact their minds, hearts, and their confidence. My mission is to create an environment in which anyone that trains with me feels comfortable, happy, and is focused on learning and improving.

I believe that teaching positive mental and technical consistency are the key components of improvement. In one on one training sessions, we review and repetitively corrects the skills needed for each athlete to improve. I want to share what I have learned over the years on and off the court. This extends to lessons I’ve learned, goals I’ve accomplished and even my biggest failures. My hopes are that I can provide my athletes with the opportunities to find the best version of themselves.
