Coach A.Y’s philosophy on education
The main idea of my philosophy on the concept of education is this: “The definition of schooling is to gain knowledge. The more enlightening path a student can take is the capability of understanding.
When considering the term “education” the idea comes to my mind that there are two routes a student can take. Their first option is to tread their path and ideally complete their tasks to get to the end of their schooling route. However, the deeper and more fulfilling option is for them to take full advantage of the resources provided to gain all they possibly can, and embark on what I call a quest for knowledge.
To define this concept is much deeper than just explaining what education looks like and the standards which our districts, state, and country have created for teachers to follow daily. What a wonderful purpose it serves, but I believe it is not always easily applicable to each pupil. As simply as I can define my concept of being on the quest for knowledge, I find it compelling to compare it to traveling.
Before you choose to travel, you are most likely ignorant to many concepts. The people of other countries usually live differently but you may assume they live how you do before you witness their lifestyles with your own eyes and ears. It could simply be a concept missed previously as you don’t have the capacity to create ideas about much outside the daily world you know and seemingly understand. To travel is to understand the details of where you go. The nuances of each location means more when you experience them first hand.
Such is education. Experiencing a deeper understanding for every concept brought to light gives you a higher knowledge about how things work. It allows you to think deeper and create your own ideas about something you may not know much about. If a student can gain an interest and not just drift off when their teacher talks, then they might discover they are capable of forming ideas that could lead them somewhere amazing.
Landing this plane in the classroom, it’s an educator's job to make them want to return to countries and try new ones. Good trips hypothetically create repeat travelers. Therefore, strong teachers help students understand there is more to learning that they had previously realized.
To teach a child to listen requires patience. That is one of the many characteristics we educators must have a strong comitment. To encourage a child to think for themselves… Now we have reached my central focus. A student-centered approach to teaching is what I will strive towards daily. Students learn and retain information better when they are actively engaged. In my approach to education I know I must fill our precious instructional time with fun and active learning.
An educator is a leader. Great leaders don’t set out to lead people.. Their goal is to make a difference. I want to make a difference in my students' lives and give them an understanding of Anatomy and Physiology along the way. I believe that my job is to help students prepare for anything.
Great mind and philanthropist Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I dare say I slightly disagree with his statement as I would change it to the following. “Providing education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change one person. That in one person you may be able to help them change their world.”
